Agrobiológica Sustentabilidade treats 1.5 million hectares against corn leafhopper

Company of the holding Crop Care, develops technologies with biological active ingredients, aiming at profitability for the producer and sustainability

Agrobiológica Sustentabilidade, the biological products company of the holding Crop Care, reached the mark of 1.5 million hectares treated with Aptur, a product developed exclusively by the company based in Leme, São Paulo, for the control of the corn leafhopper, one of the most devastating pests of Brazilian crops.

The active principle of this technology, known as Bioshock, is the fungus Isaria fumosorosea, one of the most used for the biological control of Dalbulus maidis in Brazil, the scientific name for the corn leafhopper.

The fungus acts by contact, either during the nymph (i.e. still young) or adult stage of the insect. Once the product is released into the field, Isaria fumosorosea causes a kind of infection in the leafhopper, forming an internal colony within the pest, which serves as a source of multiplication of the fungus.

Besides Isaria fumosorosea, for a more effective action to prevent and eliminate the pest, Aptur contains other combined agents, such as metabolites, spores, and ready-made structures, which make application more efficient and offer faster control, which is a differential for the producer.

“In recent years the corn leafhopper has become a major problem for corn growers. This has increased the demand for biological and chemical products to combat the pest. Biological products have proven to be a viable alternative with better performance in the control of this pest in relation to agrochemicals. This means that more research is being done in search of sustainable solutions for recurrent problems in crops”, explains Marcelo Pessanha, CEO of Crop Care.

Investing in the future of biologicals

By 2025, Agrobiológica Sustentabilidade expects to invest R$ 100 million in factory expansion and modernization, in addition to fostering new research projects and product development. “The new and modern manufacturing complex, located in Itápolis, interior of São Paulo, will be able to launch 20 new products already in the next production cycles”, celebrates Pessanha.

In a strong expansion process, more than 30 hires will be made for the sales areas, in addition to research and market development, still in this cycle and, according to the CEO, new vacancies will also be opened for positions in the industrial segment of the company soon.

“The future of agriculture lies in safe technologies, produced by highly skilled people, who value the environmental agenda and respect the legislation, without leaving aside the profitability of the producer”, concludes the executive.
